Keyword Search Help

Follow these top tips and you will get much better job search results, we promise!

There are only 5 commands you need to remember:

" "

AND

OR

NOT

( )

There is no limit to how often you can use any of these commands in a search.

" " - Quotation Marks (exact phrase match)

Quotation marks are used to capture results that contain the exact phrase entered in the precise word order stated.

e.g. "sales manager"

would find jobs that only contain the exact phrase 'sales manager'

Not using " " around a phrase will mean that each word is treated separately. For example:

sales manager

would find jobs that contain 'sales' and 'manager', but not necessarily in the same sentence or paragraph!

AND

AND is the simplest function to apply. Any search terms that follows an AND command must appear in the result. For example:

flash AND "game designer"

will find jobs that include both the word flash and the phrase "game designer". All search results will include both, and any Jobs that have either flash or "game designer" (but not both) will not appear.

OR

Usage of the OR command allows you to create a list of possibilities for which only one match is important. For example, the following search phrase would find jobs that contain one or more of the stated phrases:

"game designer" or "level designer"

NOT

NOT is the command of exclusion. If there are closely related terms that mean very different things, then usage of the NOT command is extremely valuable. An example could be as follows:

architect NOT "software architect"

This would find jobs that contain the word architect, but leaving out any that use the phrase "software architect".

( ) - Brackets

The most common place that brackets are applied is in the use of OR strings.

Perhaps a good example would be where the job you are looking for could have one of several different job titles. You might construct a command like this:

european AND ("sales executive" OR "account manager" OR "sales consultant" OR "business development manager")

The above would help you find sales jobs with a European dimension.
