Maintenance Supervisor


At our clients school in Bristol, we are committed to providing a nurturing and inspiring environment for our students to learn and grow. We are currently seeking a dedicated Maintenance Supervisor to ensure the school premises and grounds are maintained to the highest standards, while championing compliance with health and safety policies and regulations.


As our Maintenance Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in creating a safe and well-maintained school environment.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • General Repairs: Take full responsibility for internal and external general repairs to ensure the school facilities are always in top-notch condition.
  • Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) Objectives: Collaborate with all staff to achieve Safety, Health, and Environment objectives for the school, fostering a culture of safety and environmental awareness.
  • Grounds and Gardens Maintenance: Maintain the school grounds and gardens, creating a pleasant and inviting atmosphere for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of school vehicles, promoting a safe and reliable transportation service.
  • Supervision and Support: Provide supervision, support, and guidance to other maintenance and SHE staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.
  • Equipment Purchase and Maintenance: Manage the purchase and maintenance of equipment within policy guidelines, ensuring the school is well-equipped for optimal functioning.
  • Collaboration with Regional Property Manager: Liaise with the Witherslack Group Regional Property Manager to coordinate and align maintenance efforts effectively.
  • Training and Development: Undertake relevant training, including attaining the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (I.O.S.H.) 'Managing Safely' qualification, to stay current with industry best practices.

Safety, Health & Environment Focus:


  • Management System: Ensure a robust Safety, Health, and Environment Management System is in place within the school, reporting directly to the Head Teacher and Group SHE Risk Management.
  • Risk Assessments: Coordinate and conduct risk assessments for educational, auxiliary, and maintenance areas.
  • Inspections: Carry out self-evaluation safety inspections to ensure the SHE management system operates effectively.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain records of maintenance, inspection, and testing on school premises.
  • Advisory Role: Advise the Head Teacher/Head of Group SHE Risk Management on potentially hazardous situations or activities affecting staff, pupils, and visitors.
  • First Aid Provision: Make provisions for First Aid, including the location of First Aid boxes, contents, First Aid room, and personnel trained to respond to incidents.

Qualifications and Skills:


  • Proven experience in a similar maintenance leadership role.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and supervisory skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Relevant qualifications in maintenance and safety management.
