Bid Manager / Bid Support /Technical Support Engineer: Renewable Energy / Decarbonisation (Built environment)
This is a great opportunity for a commercial and environmental (Sustainability / Decarbonisation /Renewables technology /energy efficiency) focused individual with either a degree related to this work or some experience gained from working on Bids /Tenders or technical pre-sales environment previously. Experience from within the built environment / Civil engineering space would be desirable and offer a great opportunity within this growing consultancy. This role will be involved in the bid process from inception through to delivery. It will involve crafting project proposals that accurately reflect the required scope of work, resourcing, costs, and project/programme delivery that will support the company to win and deliver work promptly and efficiently.
This work will need to be closely coordinated with the work of the Operations Team, to ensure correct scheduling, resourcing and pricing in what will be a stimulating and rewarding role that will offer an exciting and growth career opportunity.
This role will be working with the technical, sales and leadership teams and will form a key role within the business reporting into the Business Development Director.
Specific tasks will include:
- Accompanying the BD Director on client meeting/visits and working with other experienced and technical professionals to support the creation of and response to bid / tender /RFI based opportunities. (Consultancy engagement)
- In supporting the BD Director this role will form the frmework of successful delivery through understanding the opportunities to be delivered within existing and future business capability.
- Liaising with the Ops Team to scope out and price up project work, once the client has requested a formal proposal. (Note that this RFP may happen during the initial visit).
- Drafting proposals for projects, prior to review and sign off by the BD and Ops Directors. Proposals may follow the standard format as stand-alone documents; or may be bids submitted within a competitive tender exercise and required to follow a 3rd-party format. This could also involve a need to liaise with the procurement agency running the tender exercise, in order to ensure a comprehensive and correctly constructed bid is submitted.
- Ensuring required contracts are put in place with the client prior to further progress along the step-by-step process.
- Supporting the BD Director in handing over projects to the Ops Team, once contracts have been signed off by the client.
- Attending project kick-off meetings with the client, when required, in support of the Ops Director.
- In conjunction with the BD Director and Marketing Manager, keeping the client and pipeline database up to date.
- Supporting the Ops Team with internal project-related housekeeping such as correct online filing of project documents and timely submission of invoices.
- Attendance at sales exhibitions and conferences, alongside the BD Director. These occur 3 or 4 times in the year, at present.

- Presentation of technical options and solutions to clients.
- Identification of further opportunities with existing project clients.
- Continuous analysis of renewables/low-carbon technologies and other energy efficiency measures, including costs and potential subsidies, to ensure that we are offering our markets the best options and are prepared for new options as they become viable.
- Analysis of the competition in our target markets.
Essential Qualities
- Graduate level education or equivalent ideally within an engineering or built environment focus
- An enthusiasm for the practical application of renewables technology /energy efficiency /decarbonisation with a good grasp of commercial realities and a keen eye for commercial opportunities.
- Energetic and capable of operating under own initiative as well as part of a team.
- Logical and pragmatic in your approach.
- Excellent communications skills, including the ability to produce clear and well constructed written bids / tenders / responses to client requests for information.
- Competent user of MS Office
Highly Desirable Qualities & Experience
- Knowledge or experience of the renewables technologies industry.
