Shipping & Logistics Coordinator: Permanent. Reading based.
The Shipping & Logistics Co-ordinator will be responsible for negotiating and managing freight contracts and costs to ensure the best value for money. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the smooth flow of goods both inbound and outbound to/from global suppliers and customers ensuring compliance to customs procedures.
Typical duties:- Collaborate with internal associates and external stakeholders on customer priorities in order to identify priorities and improve efficiency, productivity and process.
- Manage daily inbound/outbound shipping issues and troubleshoot delays relating to customs, and customs documentation.
- Develop KPI for logistics including on time supplier delivery performance and financial metrics.
- Ensure Customs and Financial compliance in accordance with HMRC regulations
- Optimisation of HS/commodity codes on new and existing products to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Sign off import invoices based on cross checks of quotes/agreements
- Monitor, analyse and report on monthly freight costs against KPIs;
- Establish process for tendering of freight business to third parties · Establish templates and automated processes for the creation, optimisation, storage and retrieval of shipping documentation.
- Identify and eliminate gaps in internal processes to ensure the efficient completion of shipping documentation
- Upskill relevant internal associates in shipping and customs procedures in order to close knowledge gaps.
Preferred background:- Experience in shipping and distribution sectors, either working in-house for a distributor/manufacturer or managing a team in the freight forward/shipping world
- Have a firm understanding of rate cards and freight pricing strategies include zonal and banded rate cards
- Have a solid understanding of the global shipping market. Knowledge of air, sea, road shipments and express couriers
- Have up to date working knowledge of customs legislation, procedures and documentation concerning export, import, declarations, preferential treatments and Incoterms
- Be familiar with and able to apply, HS/Commodity codes and the Customs Integrated Tariff System (and UK Government Tariff System)
- Be able to identify the correct HS codes and apply them to identify correct Tariff and VAT levels across multiple countries.
