Apprenticeship -IT Field Engineer -Apprentice- Technology - Engineer
EllisKnight are working with an amazing growth Technology business based in Reading who are looking to hire an Apprentice IT Field Engineer. The ideal candidate will have a passion for Technology and Customers with a thirst for learning. This will be a key role within the business where you will be supported with your studies while also working.

- Anyone with previous IT hardware/software, or cabling experience would be very useful
Role overview:
You will assist our experienced Field Engineers with configuration and installation of hardware/ software on customer sites. You will also assist the remote support team with troubleshooting faults with customer equipment plus supporting our Head Office in Reading with internal IT.
As an inclusive employer we will only ever assess your ability to do the job and with this role we will require the successful applicant to be able to complete some manual work which can include carrying, moving and lifting various items of kit and hardware either alone or as part of a team.What can you expect from a Field Support Engineer role:
- Carry out site surveys and pre-installation discoveries prior to the installation of new or upgraded managed services.
- Assist the Service Desk with supporting internal IT requirements within the Reading office
- Support the field engineers in any technical and pre-installation documentation where appropriate.
- Assist and support on escalated incidents, problems and change requests to ensure the company meets its SLA timescales.
- Ensure timely update of the company's Service Management ticketing system.
- Carry out all maintenance tasks, including patching/updating of system applications, for on-site services as detailed in contracted service management plans.
- Carry out initial inspections on returned end-user equipment and on new or replacement end-user equipment prior to dispatch.
- Support implementation of agreed service changes and ensure all documentation is updated to reflect configuration changes.
- Asset Management for all managed services - supporting the routine update and auditing of all customer sites
- Build, install and configure managed ICT services in line with the company's product set and customer requirements.
- Assist in the technical day to day relationship with internal customer service teams and 3rd party supplier interfaces
Desired qualities, skills, and knowledge:
- Good technical aptitude/interest, skills and knowledge.
- Logical approach to problem solving.
- Experience of installing IT hardware/software products is not essential, but advantageous (training will be provided)
- Experience of running data cables.
- The ideal candidate will be a bright and enthusiastic individual who is dedicated to achieving great results.
- A self-starter with a keen eye for detail and the ability to work on your own initiative
- Ability to prioritise workload efficiently.
- Proactive and forward-thinking approach. Ability to think laterally and possess a strong problem- solving capability.
- Ability to question existing processes and provide input to improve where necessary
- Ability to take initiative and ownership.
- Full clean UK driver's license is essential due to certain aspects of the role.
