EllisKnight is currently hiring 8 interim/day rate (outside IR35) contract Ecologists / Ecology Consultants for a professional and highly regarded Environmental Practice of this established and inclusive Civils/Construction Infrastructure Consultancy.
These Ecologist / Ecology roles will be involved in a major UK infrastructure programme based within the Midlands as well as some other projects depending on utilisation and location. The positions will range in level due to the number required, however all will require previous experience of working as an Ecologist / Leading teams of Ecologists.
Previous experience of working on major or large scale Infrastructure, Civils/Construction projects/programmes previously would be desirable for the more junior requirements and essential for the senior and Leadership positions.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications
Essential:- Previous experience of working as an ecologist or within an ecology team.
- Membership of a relevant professional institute desirable (e.g. IEMA, CIEEM)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
- Able to lead and manage ecological surveys such as bats and GCN.
- Able to undertake and write a Preliminary Ecological Appraisals
- Possess a good level of interpersonal skill, both verbal and written, including problem solving and negotiating skills, management of meetings and presentations
- Able to manage numerous activities/different projects simultaneously - short and long term
- Able to create and maintain strong client relationships
- Excellent understanding of ecological legislation for development
- Experience of working with contractors / Ecological Clerk of Works
Desirable:- Experience in using a range of bat detectors and ability to analyse sonograms accurately
- Experience in planning and advising on mitigation for at least one protected species
- Experience in writing European Protected Species Mitigation licence applications
- Experience in preliminary ecological appraisals and Phase 1 surveys
- Marketing skills / willing to contact potential clients
- GIS skills in producing ecological maps
- Experience of working on large infrastructure projects
